Derek Martin, M.S.

Research Specialist

A series of historical aerial photographs display the evolution of a meander bend on the Jacks Fork near Eminence, MO.  Click the image to learn more about my research interests

I am a 2005 graduate of the Geospatial Science Masters program here at Missouri State University.  My thesis research involved the use of GIS and historical aerial photograph analysis to assess changes in channel planform and gravel accumulation/migration on the Jacks Fork and Current Rivers within the Ozarks National Scenic Riverways.

My role within the Ozarks Environmental and Water Resources Institute is to provide expertise in the areas of Geospatial Technology as it applies to water resource issues of the Ozarks.  Specifically, I am developing an online database through which researchers can access and update spatially referenced water quality, land-use, and other environmental data specific to Ozark watersheds.  I also provide geospatial technological services to many other projects within the institute.

For more detailed explanations of the projects that I’m involved with, as well as my CV and personal interests, please see the links on the left side of this page.
